Eating Disorder PTSD Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Eating Disorder PTSD - Essay Example The greatest differences were found between sexual traumatizations and non-sexual traumatizations and individuals who had experienced both child sexual abuse and rape in adulthood were found to most likely display an ED-related psychopathology. Women who had been sexually assaulted were significantly more likely to report an ED compared to women who had not been assaulted. Sexual abuse hence, is an important predictor of bulimia nervosa and other bulimic disorders and based upon an 18-year prospective and longitudinal study, this implies that traumatizations, especially sexual traumatizations may augment the risk of ED development. Through recent studies, psychotherapists had been able to diagnose PTSD in only one case of the anorexic and in three cases of the bulimics patients, indicating as well that PTSD is less pronounced in routine clinical practice and further inquiry on the possibility of traumatic events to have occurred in ED patients is suggested. Since many patients are no t comfortable revealing major traumatizations during the initial stages of therapy, evaluation of trauma during therapy is encouraged to progress with sufficient time. While ED patients have scarcely been found to experience somatization, ED patients with PTSD exhibited more somatization symptoms than patients without PTSD.

Produce a table of four profitability ratios, four efficiency ratios Assignment

Produce a table of four profitability ratios, four efficiency ratios and two liquidity ratios for each enterprise below. Written Report - Assignment Example Daley has a current ratio of 1.3: 1 which is lower than Macey’s despite having both, more current assets and liabilities. It is however, still enough to meet its short term obligations. Both companies have a good liquidity position, which prevents them from having to sell off their inventory in order to pay their short term debts. Without liquidating their inventories, both companies can easily manage their short term obligations through their most liquid current assets. Daley has a better inventory turnover ratio which indicates that it takes less time to sell off its finished products. With less cash tied up in inventory and considerably lower cost of goods sold, Daley takes approximately 10 days less than Macey to convert its goods into sales. Customers of Daley are taking twice as long to repay the company which means that the receivable collection is not timely. Compared to Macey, Daley has a lot tied up in the form of receivables, more than 1.5 times as much as Macey. Its sales are also approximately $300 million less than Macey’s. Macey’s receivable collection seems to be within their average length of time taken to recover cash. These figures indicate that both the firms deal in some sort of fast moving consumer goods to able to recover cash within 2-3 days. Daley’s utilization of fixed assets is better than Macey’s with a ratio of 8.9 times. For every $1 invested in fixed assets, Daley is making $8.9 in sales. On the other hand, Macey is making only $5.5 in sales for every $1 invested in fixed assets. Macey has higher sales than Daley but it also has approximately twice the amount of fixed assets. This signifies that Macey has too much invested in fixed assets. Daley, despite having higher current assets and lower sales than Macey’s, has a better total asset turnover. Macey’s investment in fixed asset seems to be unnecessary and is affecting its ability to generate sufficient sales with regards to the amount of fixed assets

William Blakes poems Essay Example for Free

William Blakes poems Essay Much of William Blakes poems are cynical and even satirical of a society who thought themselves to be almost perfect. He wanted people to question what they had always done, and whether it was morally right. He did so by using varying techniques that set up clashes between ideologies and value systems. From the poem The Chimney Sweeper from the Songs of Innocence and the poem London from Songs of Experience; we see that employing poetic techniques to set up such clashes is relatively evident in his poetry. These clashes are due to changing ways of thinking which are also evident in Simon Langtons Pride and Prejudice. Jean Jacque Rousseau once said that man is born free and everywhere he is in chains, which refers to the way weve devised political systems for ourselves that dont allow us to be free. These chains are evident in the poem Chimney sweeper. Blake employs the persona of a small boy, Tom Dacre .This itself is a technique, using the boy as the persona elevates him as an individual. He is no longer a young chimney sweeper, he has a name, he has feelings, emotions, all things, which are mostly unrecognized by the landed elite. Merely by employing the persona of a young chimney sweeper, Blake has set up a clash between ideologies and value systems .Within Pride and Prejudice these chains came in the form of social obligation. These social obligations repress Darcy from showing emotion and tried to pre-destine his future. The theme of individuality is continued as he states Theres little Tom Dacre who cried when his head/That curled like a Lambs back was shavd. However, Blake is now focusing on Toms loss of Individuality. This loss of individuality is due to his social status in the community. The use of imagery and similes once again sets up a clash between the accepted use of children as chimney sweepers and the values that they lose their individuality as a result of it. In the poem London, Blake expresses his critique through the usage of a progression of symbols that spread out from the charterd street to encompass the whole city where the persona notices every face he encounters marks of weakness, marks of woe. The city is therefore represented as an alienating and constricting environment and everybody is marked by it. Society marks individuals due to their family background and connections which restricts the acceptance of Elizabeth Bennet by Lady Catherine De Bourgh who states but who is your mother, Lady De Bourgh reminds Elizabeth her mother was not born into a landed elite family and recommends Elizabeth not to quite the sphere in which she belongs Within the poem The Chimney Sweeper there is conflict regarding the Church of England. The chimney sweepers discussed in the poem are not aided by the church. The church can only stand by, inarticulate, faint and helpless while these suppressed children continue to carry out their inhumane tortures. The sweepers in a dream believe an angel would come by Who had a bright key/ and opened the coffins and set them all free. This is a sign from god, yet it is symbolic of the church itself. Through the use of symbolism, Blake has set up a clash between the common belief that the church is perfect and good in every way, to the value they do nothing for these poor people who believe so ardently in them. These changing attitudes towards the church are reflected within Darwins theory of evolution. Naturalist Charles Darwin went against the traditional way of looking at the creation of man. The traditional belief of god created man was challenged by what he calls the origin of species. Darwin believed in natural selection which meant that random variations occurred within species and allowed them to dominate over other species without this variation, which is ultimately meant survival of the fittest. It is clearly evident through the poems London and The Chimney Sweeper from the Songs of Experience and Innocence respectively, that Blakes poetry, and Simon Langtons Pride and Prejudice depict changing way of thinking in the late 18th century, as conflict between ideologies and values systems takes place. It is tradition that keeps societies, families and communities under control, but when these traditions are challenged, conflict with obviously increase and a new value systems and ideologies will be introduced into society.

De Mars Product Strategy

De Mars Product Strategy De Mars Product Strategy De Mar, a plumbing, heating, and air- conditioning company located in Fresno, California, has a simple but powerful product strategy: Solve the customers problem no matter what, solve the problem when the customer needs it solved, and make sure the customer feels good when you leave. De Mar offers guaranteed, same- day service for customers requiring it. The company provides 24- hour- a- day, 7- day- a- week service at no extra charge for customers whose air conditioning dies on a hot summer Sunday or whose toilet over-flows at 2: 30 A. M. As assistant service coordinator Janie Walter puts it: We will be there to fix your A/ C on the fourth of July, and its not a penny extra. When our competitors wont get out of bed, well be there! De Mar guarantees the price of a job to the penny before the work begins. Whereas most competitors guarantee their work for 30 days, De Mar guarantees all parts and labor for one year. The company assesses no travel charge because its not fair to charge customers for driving out. Owner Larry Harmon says: We are in an industry that doesnt have the best reputation. If we start making money our main goal, we are in trouble. So I stress customer satisfaction; money is the by- product. De Mar uses selective hiring, ongoing training and education, performance measures and compensation that incorporate customer satisfaction, strong teamwork, peer pressure, empowerment, and aggressive promotion to implement its strategy. Says credit manager Anne Semrick: The person who wants a nine- to- five job needs to go somewhere else. De Mar is a premium pricier. Yet customers respond because De Mar delivers value- that is, benefits for costs. In 8 years, annual sales increased from about $ 200,000 to m ore than $ 3.3 million. ____________________________ Discussion Questions What is De Mar product? Identify the tangible parts of this product and its service components De Mar s product is repairs and installations of plumbing HVAC. This is the tangible part of their product offering; parts of repairs and installations and service of these components. Same day 24 hours 7 day service at no extra charge with a one year service guarantee puts them ahead of most competitors that only guarantee their service for 30 days.   2. How should other areas of De Mar (marketing, finance, personnel) support its product strategy?   DeMars marketing department can leverage the companys reputation and guarantee into a strong marketing campaign. The marketing team should do market comparisons of competitors and use that comparison in their marketing strategy, that 1 year guarantee far surpasses a 30 day guarantee and shows that the company has confidence in their product and service.   De Mars selective hiring process and ongoing training and education, ensures performance measures and compensation that could ensure customer satisfaction. Another marketing strategy and incorporated the HR practice The person who wants a nine-to-five job needs to go somewhere else. Customers dont mind paying more because De Mar delivers value added product and services evidenced by annual sales increase over 8 years from about $200,000 to more than $3.3 million 3. Even though De Mars product is primarily a service product, how should each of the 10 OM decision in the text be managed to ensure that the product is successful? Quality DeMars ultimate goal is customer satisfaction, solve the problem when the customer needs it solved, and make sure the customer feels good when the job is completed. Therefore, customers expect quality and DeMars reputation guarantees quality. The OM should ask customers to fill out a customer satisfaction survey about installation or repair. This will give the OM first hand knowledge of how customer perceived the service and the serviceperson. Product DeMars product is plumbing and heating and cooling. The installation is only as good as the product being installed and the product is only as good as the installer. Product and service go hand in hand. The OM should strive for a superior product that would live up to the 1 year guarantee and service excellence on the part of the service person. Process DeMars process can only be enhanced by cross training staff to maintain adequate staffing and stay on top of new technology to remain competitive in their market. Above all DelMar should carefully monitor its competitors to keep their prices at within reach of their target market. There are many process options available for heating cooling and plumbing. The OM has to be look at the physical product and the intangible services offered by the company to design the process. Technology is available to streamline the overall process of supply and demand as well as scheduling staff to meet the companies and customer needs and should be taken into consideration as expenses and capital commitments that will determine much of the firms basic cost structure of DeMar.   Location De Mar, a plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning company located in Fresno, California, has a simple but powerful product strategy: Solve the customers problem no matter what, solve the problem when the customer needs it solved, and make sure the customer feels good when you leave. De Mar offers guaranteed, same-day service for customers requiring it. Layout The plant has to include adequate secure parking for service vehicles and inventory. Parts and specialty tools should be easily checked out per job. In order for the smooth operations of the shop parts and tools must be clearly identifiable and neatly stored. Human Resource. Human resources is important to any service operations. This is not a 9-5 job and the Human resources department has to hire staff capable of working various shifts. The staff hired must be personable, professional and skilled. Workshops and skills an assessment testing is must in the service industry Supply Chain Supply chain management is the bread and butter of the service industry. The OM has to take into consideration ordinary run of the mill maintenance jobs and their inventory needs as well as seasonal maintenance. In the summer customers may want to refresh or replenish their air conditioning system. Other jobs may require a complete overall. The OMs job is to identify suppliers that are capable of expedite delivery of specialty parts parts needed Inventory DeMar s OM has to forecast what would be needed. All of their services have a seasonal component. Heating is critical in winter vice versa with cooling. Therefore the OM should purchase inventory to satisfy seasonal requirements. Scheduling Scheduling at Demar is critical due to their on demand type product offering. Repair of Plumbing and heating/cooling is critical to the customer and therefore should be important that the company satisfy the customers need in a expedited manner. A ruptured water pipe or overflow situation if not handled promptly could result in increases customer distress. The company should schedule their low priority customers such as routine maintenance around critical repairs. Assistant service coordinator Janie Walter is quotes as saying We will be there to fix your A/C on the fourth of July, and its not a penny extra. When our competitors wont get out of bed, well be there! Maintenance and timely service of the machines are the most important thing required to ensure they perm when needed. Due to their 24/7 service their maintenance of equipment must be up to standard to reduce downtime that could result in customer dissatisfaction. There is nothing worse than having to tell a customer that they need to come back later to complete the Job.

The False Equality of Americans :: Economics Social History Essays

The False Equality of Americans In economic, social and political terms, equality is more of an idea than a reality for many people in America; the majority of money and power has been in the control of White men since colonial times. Ideologies like racism and sexism perpetuate the status quo by isolating under- privileged groups. Problems arise from divisions that are created between two under- privileged groups. For example, the cry for equality loses much of its power when it is fractured into several segmented cries. The book Outside the Magic Circle, addresses this issue. Organizations which successfully fought for equality, like the NCAPT, were destroyed by forces (such as anti communism) which essentially divide the groups’ members and the groups, themselves. Thus, any given group becomes ineffective. This book demonstrates that unity is the best way to fight for equality. The red scare was brought upon by men like Joseph McCarthy, who were eager to exploit people’s fear of Russia for personal benefit and power. Anyone who was associated with communism was highly scrutinized to be a Russian spy. Instead of fighting for the rights of the accused individuals, many social action groups ridded themselves of these very people. Durr realized that red baiting would destroy liberal groups which were fighting for justice. The NCAPT refused to dismiss people who were believed to be communist, but other groups were driven by fear and fired large numbers of people. â€Å"Everybody began to purge. The NAACP purged, the unions purged, everybody purged† (191). Instead of fighting stereotypes many groups fell prey to them, and in doing so lost their ability to challenge the status quo. Therefore â€Å"the whole liberal movement of the United States died...(because) it became exclusively anti communistic† (186). Equally effective at seperating people as anti-communism was the upper class which manipulated and abused the lower class for profit. â€Å"Every Southern state, every chamber of commerce, and every corporation thought the way to make the South prosperous was cheap labor† (179). Thus, members of the Southern upper class employed methods to keep people in lower classes. â€Å"The Southern oligarchy was ruining all the unions by keeping them from organizing† (156). At a time when labor unions were beginning to cross racial lines, the manner in which their empowering rise was quelled made alleviated race relations impossible. History of Physics :: Science Scientific Physics Essays

History of Physics Physics began when man first started to study his surroundings. Early applications of physics include the invention of the wheel and of primitive weapons. The people who built Stone Henge had knowledge of physical mechanics in order to move the rocks and place them on top of each other. It was not until during the period of Greek culture that the first systematic treatment of physics started with the use of mechanics. Thales is often said to have been the first scientist, and the first Greek philosopher. He was an astronomer, merchant and mathematician, and after visiting Egypt he is said to have originated the science of deductive geometry. He also discovered theorems of elementary geometry and is said to have correctly predicted an eclipse of the sun. Many of his studies were in astronomy but he also observed static electricity. Phythogoras was a Greek philosopher. He discovered simple numerical ratios relating the musical tones of major consonances, to the length of the strings us ed in sounding them. The Pythagorean theorem was named after him, although this fundamental statements of deductive geometry was most likely first an idea from Egyptian methods of measurements. With the help of his followers he discovered that the earth was a sphere, but he did not believe it revolved around the sun. Democritus was the leader of a group called Atomists. Although they were unable to prove that matter was made up of small particles, they were the first to come up with the idea. Democritus believed that atoms differed in size, shape, and movement but were all made of the same substances. Aristotle was the most important scientific philosopher in Greece. He believed that all matter on earth consisted of four pure substances or elements, which were earth, air, fire, and water. He also believed that the earth was the centre of the universe, and that anything beyond the earth consisted of a fifth pure substance called quintessence. Archimedes was an inventor and mathematician, who discovered several basic scientific principles and developed a number of measuring techniques. Ptolemy was an Egyptian astronomer. He developed a model for predicting the positions of the sun, moon, stars, and planets. Like Aristotle, he believed that the earth was the center of the universe. Between 400 AD. a nd 1000 AD. Most educated people in Western Europe looked to religion rather than scientific investigation to answer their questions about the laws of nature.

Chemistry: Displacement Reactions Essay

Objectives: 1. Learn how to determinate the percent composition 2. Learn how to get the percent using oxidation reduction and double reactions 3. To become more familiar with the use titration techniques 4. To learn how to get the salt out of an quimical Background: To develop and utilize procedures to determine the percent composition, of ZnCI2. As well titrating with NaOH solution. After all the experiment we got hta salt witch we weighted and we got our results. What is the weight of a post 1982 penny? 2.5 grams 2. What is the percent copper and zinc in a post 1982 penny? 97.5% of zinc and 2.5% of copper 3. How many grams of copper and zinc are in a post 1982 penny? 2.44grams of copper and 0.0625gramss of zinc 4. How many moles of copper and zinc are in post 1982 pennies? 0.0383moles of cooper and 0.000955moles of zinc 5. Write a balanced reaction of zinc with HCl. Zn (s) + 2 HCl(aq) ====> Zn+2(aq) + 2 Cl-(aq) + H2(g) Reaction: Zn(s) + 2 H+(aq) ====> Zn+2(aq) + H2(g) 6. How many moles of HCl are needed to react completely with all of the zinc in a post 1982 penny? 7.46 x 10-2 mol HCl 7. In a procedure developed to determine the percent zinc in post 1982 pennies, 50 ml of an HCl solution was used to react (dissolve) all of the zinc in the penny. To ensure complete reaction, the solution contains twice as many moles of HCl that is actually needed. What concentration of HCl should be used? M=2.984 7.46Ãâ€"10-2 mol x 2 = .1492mol H 8. In the scenario described in problem 7, what is the amount (in moles) of excess (unreacted) HCl in solution? .1492 moles used .0746 needed .0746 moles HCI unreacted 9. How many moles of NaOH would be needed to completely react with all of the excess HCl determined in problem 8? .0746 moles HCI reacts with .0746 moles of NaOH 10. As described in problem 7, a procedure was developed to determine the percent zinc in post 1982 pennies. In that procedure 50 ml of an HCl was used to react (dissolve) all of the zinc in the penny. To ensure complete reaction, the solution contains twice as many moles of HCl that is actually  needed. To determine the percent zinc in the penny, the excess (unreacted) HCl was titrated with NaOH. Determine the concentration of NaOH needed if you want to use approximately 25 mL of NaOH to titrate the excess HCl. M = .0746 moles of NaOH/.025L NaOH M = 2.984 11. Write the balanced chemical reaction of zinc with HCl (same as problem 5). Is the product of this reaction soluble in aqueous solution? Yes soluble Zn(s) + 2HCI (aq) = ZnCI2(aq) + H2(g) 12. Write the balanced chemical reaction of the product of the reaction described above (problem 11) with NaOH. Is the product of this reaction soluble in aqueous solution? ZnCI2 + 2NaOH = Zn(OH)2+ 2NaCI Zn(OH)2 = low solubility Expected results: Our expected results are to obtain the pink cluster in the solution while titrating. This way after taken more steps we while maybe be able to find some salt. Steps to do: *In the first part of this experiment we are going to dissolve the zinc core of a penny *After that we leave the copper covering intact *We also by putting four notches in the coin using a triangular file and placing the penny in 50ml of a predetermined concentration of HCI overnight *After that we are going to determinate the concentration needed to add 2 times the number of moles of HCI needed in the 50ml of solution * We are going to determinate the percent of copper from the mass of copper and the percent zinc by two methods: 1. The titration experiment 2. The precipitation experiment *Now we first got 10 ml of ZnCI2 *To that we added 6 drops of our color indicator (Prenolpthen) *After that we got 50 ml NaOH solution *Than we titrate the ZnCl2 with NaOH *Until we got pink cluster *Now we put the clusters in a paper filter that was dripping the solution living only the clusters *With a tube we connected a vacuum so this way we  were left with only the salt *After this we put the salt in like an oven so that this could dry the salt and this won’t be wet *When we took it out all we had was dry salt and we weight it and started our formulas Results: I calculated the percent % of salt of Zn(OH)2. First I determinate the formulas for both, follow by calculating the atomic mass of Zn. First I had to have the weight of the salt, so I did all the procedures on top. My result for the weight of the salt was .33g and the result of the Zn was .2174. To be able to get percent I calculated by dividing 2.174 witch is the grams of Zn and 2.5 grams multiplying the result by 100 = 86.994% Conclusion and discussion: During Experiment 8 conducted April 16 2014. I noticed the difference in the % for the reaction, when titrating ZnCI2 with NaOH solution. For this experiment we did 2 trials since in the first one we did not get any clusters, but on the second trial we did get some and we got more salt than anyone else.
